China has noted the U.S. announcement on April 2 (Eastern U.S. Time) to impose "reciprocal tariffs" on all trading partners. China resolutely opposes this move and will firmly take countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
The U.S. claims to have suffered losses in international trade and uses so-called 'reciprocity' as a pretext to raise tariffs on all trading partners. This approach disregards the balanced interests achieved through multilateral trade negotiations over the years and ignores the fact that the U.S. has long reaped substantial benefits from international trade. The so-called 'reciprocal tariffs,' based on subjective and unilateral assessments by the U.S., violate international trade rules, severely harm the legitimate rights and interests of relevant parties, and represent a typical act of unilateral bullying. Many trading partners have already expressed strong dissatisfaction and clear opposition to this.
History has proven that raising tariffs cannot resolve the United States' own problems. It not only harms U.S. interests but also jeopardizes global economic development and the stability of industrial and supply chains. Trade wars have no winners, and protectionism offers no way out. China urges the U.S. to immediately revoke its unilateral tariff measures and resolve differences with trading partners through equal dialogue.
